Due to the continued success and growth of the business, we are recruiting for an Electrical Inspection & Test Engineer. Based predominantly in the Inspection & Test Department, you will work in the department where our ovens and furnaces are first energised and heated up.

This is a hands-on role for someone who can combine disciplined electrical inspection with practical testing and fault-finding. You will help ensure that bespoke and standard products are electrically safe, correctly configured, fully functional and ready to meet their specified performance before release.

Primary responsibilties:

  • Carry out final inspection of standard and bespoke company products and complete in-process inspection, general test and inspection duties.
  • Safely energise ovens and furnaces for the first time, complete power-up checks and support initial heat-up and commissioning.
  • Carry out performance testing of prototypes and products to agreed test specifications.
  • Test heaters, thermocouples, temperature controllers, control instruments, instrumentation, interlocks, alarms, safety circuits and ancillary equipment.
  • Verify wiring, terminations, control-panel build, electrical configuration and software configuration against drawings, specifications and bills of materials.
  • Carry out applicable LV/HV electrical safety testing, including relevant continuity, insulation-resistance and earth-bond checks.
  • Fault-find and rectify electrical and control issues where appropriate, including electrical heating circuits, relays, contactors and related components.
  • Configure control instruments and ancillary equipment; calibrate products and record calibration results.
  • Ensure equipment used complies with relevant safety and performance standards, directives, norms and company procedures.
  • Maintain organised, accurate and meticulous records, including inspection reports, rejection reports, calibration records, Quality Management System documents, test results and work-time records.
  • Log and prepare test results and identify, document and help resolve non-conformances before product release.
  • Reporting to the Quality Department you will liaise with Production, Electrical Design, Engineering and other internal departments to resolve issues efficiently.
  • Attend on- and off-site training as required to fulfil the role.
  • Work in accordance with all company health and safety procedures.

 

Key skills and qualifications:

  • Previous experience as an Inspection/Test Engineer, or practical experience in an electrical manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to read and understand electrical drawings, schematics and wiring diagrams covering supplies and instrumentation.
  • Understanding of different LV/HV testing methods, for example star/delta arrangements.
  • Ability to fault-find electrical heating circuits and control systems.
  • Understanding of relays, contactors and associated electrical components.
  • Experience with temperature-control systems, thermocouples and industrial instrumentation.
  • Experience using applicable directives, standards in industrial applications is essential.
  • PLC experience would be advantageous.
  • Self-motivated, flexible and hands-on, with a positive attitude and strong work ethic.
  • Able to prioritise multiple projects and workloads, work on own initiative and contribute effectively as a team player.
  • Good communication skills, including the ability to liaise confidently with internal departments.
  • Basic working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Valid passport and clean driving licence, as occasional travel may be required.

  • 37.5 hours per week: Monday–Thursday 8:00 am–4:45 pm; Friday 8:00 am–12:30 pm. (Early finish on a Friday).
