Workshop - Additive Metal Manufacturing: Science and Innovation

Organized by Verder Scientific Italia in collaboration with QMET and the Metallurgy Group of the Department of Engineering at the University of Ferrara, this two‑day intensive workshop is dedicated to an in‑depth exploration of the relationship between process parameters, post‑processing treatments, and the performance of metallic materials.

The workshop aims to integrate academic expertise, industrial experience, and state‑of‑the‑art technological tools in order to promote the dissemination of applied knowledge along the entire process–microstructure–properties chain.

The first day will focus on the principles and applications of L‑PBF and DED technologies, with particular attention to stainless steels as well as to the development of FeSi alloys for ferromagnetic applications and multimaterial structures, also considering the effects of post‑fabrication treatments.

The second day will broaden the perspective toward emerging approaches and materials, including the production of AISI 316L stainless steel via Material Extrusion technology, the optimization of AlSi10Mg alloys through heat treatments and surface modifications, and the challenges of additive manufacturing in the fabrication of superelastic NiTi alloys.

The program is complemented by hands‑on laboratory sessions dedicated to microstructural analysis, hardness testing, microscopy, and advanced mechanical testing, aimed at transferring operational skills and fostering dialogue between research, development, and industrial applications.

Through this workshop, Verder Scientific Italia and QMET reaffirm their commitment to supporting the technical and scientific advancement of the sector, promoting collaboration among universities, centers of excellence, and industry toward a future in which materials innovation becomes a key driver of progress.
